ProTek Devices has introduced a pair of 15kW transient voltage suppressors for 28V aircraft circuits.
“The devices meet compliance for MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-19500, in addition to being RTCA DO-160G compliant,” according to the company.
They are called:
Both are rated to 15kW 10/1,000µs pulses, but the larger …T version can handle higher power pulses when they are longer than 1ms in duration – for example: ~5.6kW against ~4.5kW at 10ms.
10/1,000µs power rating is at 25°C, above which it drops linearly to 40% at +150°C – operation is across -55 to +150°C
Both will stand-off 31.5V (max leakage 10μA) and have a minimum breakdown of 36V. Maximum clamping is 53V at 300A, which is the maximum rated current.
Aside form power rating and size, the parts differ in forward voltage, the heavier ..T dropping 15V with 8.3ms 100A pulses, while the other drops far less at 3V.
Each device is 100 percent tested.
Use is also expected in non-military applications such as induced lightning protection on equipment on rural or remote transmission lines.
ProTek Devices has been in business more than 30 years and is based in Tempe Arizona.
